Covariant Field Theory on Frame Bundles of Fibered Manifolds †

چکیده
We show that covariant field theory for sections of π : E → M lifts in a natural way to the bundle of vertically adapted linear frames LπE. Our analysis is based on the fact that LπE is a principal fiber bundle over the bundle of 1-jets J1π. On LπE the canonical soldering 1-forms play the role of the contact structure of J1π. A lifted Lagrangian L:LπE → R is used to construct modified soldering 1-forms, which we refer to as the Cartan-Hamilton-Poincaré 1-forms. These 1-forms on LπE pass to the quotient to define the standard Cartan-Hamilton-Poincaré m-form on J1π. We derive generalized Hamilton-Jacobi and Hamilton equations on LπE, and show that the Hamilton-Jacobi and canonical equations of Carathéodory-Rund and de DonderWeyl are obtained as special cases. The manifold LπE emerges as a natural arena for a unified theory that contains, in addition to the sector for sections of π, dynamical sectors for a geometry for M and a geometry for the fibers of E.

متن کاملGauge and the Hole Argument
In this paper I shall extend the formulation of the hole argument to permutable theories. As covariant theories provides a general mathematical framework for classical physics, permutable theories provide the language for quantum physics. This analogy is deeply founded: as covariant theories are defined functorially on the category of manifolds and local diffeomorphisms with values into the cat...
متن کاملSeifert Gm-bundles
Seifert fibered 3–manifolds were introduced and studied in [Sei32]. (See [ST80] for an English translation.) Roughly speaking, these are 3–manifolds M which admit a differentiable map f : M → F to a surface F such that every fiber is a circle. Higher dimensional Seifert fibered manifolds were investigated in [OW75]. The authors observed that in many cases of interest Seifert fibered manifolds c...
متن کاملOn the Geometry of Vertical Weil Bundles
We describe some general geometric properties of the fiber product preserving bundle functors. Special attention is paid to the vertical Weil bundles. We discuss namely the flow natural maps and the functorial prolongation of connections. The main purpose of the present paper is to describe some geometric properties of the category FMm of fibered manifolds with m-dimensional bases and local fib...

"Fredholm realizations of elliptic symbols on manifolds with boundary II: fibered boundary." in Motives, quantum field theory, and pseudodifferential operators
We consider two calculi of pseudodifferential operators on manifolds with fibered boundary: Mazzeo’s edge calculus, which has as local model the operators associated to products of closed manifolds with asymptotically hyperbolic spaces, and the φ calculus of Mazzeo and the second author, which is similarly modeled on products of closed manifolds with asymptotically Euclidean spaces. We construc...
